New Taipei City is the largest city in northern Taiwan. It accommodates over 4 million people, is vast in land size, exhibits diverse geographical features, and encompasses both modernized urban areas and countryside. Many people in the countryside are still working in the agriculture, aquaculture, and fishing industries. The New Taipei City Government has been actively assisting local farmers and fisherfolk in producing high-quality agricultural, aquacultural, and fishing products with distinctive characteristics; in marketing and promotion; and in increasing their revenue. Furthermore, a product traceability system has been established to ensure product quality and safeguard the safety and health of the consumers.
To promote food ingredients characteristic of New Taipei City, the city government emphasizes the concept of choosing “seasonal and local” food ingredients. In February 2020, the Department of Information, New Taipei City Government, started a 1-year collaboration with the Agricultural Department (New Taipei City Government) to produce a series of cooking videos titled “Farm-to-Table Dining in New Taipei City”, in which viewers were introduced to eight local agricultural, aquacultural, or fishing products characteristic of the city. These videos were posted concurrently on online platforms including the My New Taipei City Facebook fan page and YouTube channel, with the aim to promote high-quality food ingredients produced by local farmers in New Taipei City.
In the Farm-to-Table Dining in New Taipei City event held on September 26, 2020, young chefs were invited to design a full-course meal by using local food ingredients as the core and integrating western and eastern cooking techniques. New Taipei City citizens were invited to enjoy this creative meal at Banqiao Broadcasting Station. During the event, the chefs talked about the meal they designed, introducing the participants to characteristics of the selected ingredients, cooking methods, and their thoughts on making the meal. Citizens can thereby relearn about and delve into these local agricultural, aquacultural, and fishing products while exposed to another side of New Taipei City.
