Mayor Chu shares New Taipei's stories in the US

On his trip to American sister cities of Los Angeles and Miami-Dade, New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu shared views and experiences on city governance with his American counterparts, promising to bring closer Taiwan and US friendship and partnership, and to explore trade and commercial opportunities between New Taipei and its sister cities.

In Los Angeles, Chu called on newly elected County Supervisor from the Fifth District Kathryn Barger and recently retired Supervisor Michael Antonovich, a long time friend of the City and under whose leadership the sister city partnership was established in 1990. Barger and Chu reassured the mutual commitment to build upon the sound foundation even greater and more frequent exchanges in culture, education, and governance between two entities. Chu also paid a courtesy visit to the City of LA, where he was received by Deputy Mayor Raymond Chan. The two sides had very constructive exchanges on trade and metropolitan economic development.

The accompanying officer Director General Chieh-yu Lin also visited on Mayor's behalf the cities that maintained sister city relationships with New Taipei's districts. The partnerships were formed before the City's reorganization in 2010. Lin called on top officials from cities of Alhambra, Diamond Bar, Monterey Park, Walnut and San Marino, reiterating the importance of further collaboration and exchanges.

Mayor Chu later flew to Florida to visit New Taipei's long time sister city, Miami-Dade County, as well as Mayor from the City of Miami. The meetings with City Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Miami-Dade were fruitful and inspirational, said Mayor Chu, citing that the innovative policies and effective implementation of trade, social welfare, disaster preparedness, energy programs are of great value for New Taipei's reference. The hosts from Miami-Dade were also very impressed by the City's transformational policies and reform programs, recently awarded by the United Nations' IFC and Financial Times for its excellence.

New Taipei City has 9 sister/friendship cities. Except one in Germany and one in the Philippines, the majority are American. The Mayor's foreign visit took place from January 3rd to the 12th.
