3. Introduction

The City and County of San Francisco (San Francisco), also known as “the Golden Gate City”, “the Bay City”, and “the Foggy City”, is the only consolidated city-county in California. It is located on the north end of the San Francisco Peninsula. To its east lies San Francisco Bay and to its west is the Pacific Ocean. It is the 14th largest city in the United States, with a metropolitan area population close to 4.5 million people. Tourism is the backbone of San Francisco’s economy. Many world-class technology companies also have their headquarters in the county because of its excellent natural and business environment.

4.Recent Exchanges

1. On March 7, 2013, Mayor of San Francisco Edwin M. Lee and Mrs. Lee visited public day-care centers.

2. In August 6 to 11, 2013, the New Taipei City Youth Baseball Team attended the Friendship City Youth Baseball Tournament held at San Francisco State University, which was the start of official exchanges between the two cities.

3. On August 9, 2013, Mayor Chu and Mayor Lee signed the sister city MOU, hoping to further promote bilateral cultural, educational, economic, and tourism exchanges and cooperation.

4. On September 17, 2013, President Leslie Wong of San Francisco State University led a delegation to New Taipei City.
